Running
Yes, I signed up for the 4th Annual Florida Halfathon Challenge. I do this to myself every year, but my intentions are great! I do intend to make it this time. LOL I’ve started back up running again, but I’m going slow so that I don’t end up injured again.
My guy (a bit of news I haven’t posted about before now) & I had gone for a 3 mile walk one night last week after dinner, holding hands as we chatted (shut up, I love it, LOL). We crossed paths with Larry, who I haven’t seen in some time. He was awesome, as always, and commented “I haven’t seen you out running lately… but I see you have a NEW hobby now!” ROFL, he always makes me laugh.
Reading
I’ve actually been chewing through several different books, but I’m listening to the audiobook versions of them. Multitasking, it’s an awesome thing! LOL
- The Night Circus by Erin Morganstern
I was so looking forward to this novel – it had been on my “to-read” shelf on Goodreads for the longest time. I’ve got to remember to read books when they first appeal to me, before the hoopla builds over a book. With all of the hype over this book, I’d expected to be blown away by it… and in the end, I was sorely disappointed with it. I don’t know how much of my disappointment is the result of expectations due to the hype or if it is a story that I simply wouldn’t have cared much for either way. I tend to think it would be the latter. I heartily disagree with those comparing this story to Harry Potter, I have to say. LOL It is coming up in paperback in July, though, for those that want to give it a go! - Fool: a Novel by Christopher Moore
Ok, I must preface this ‘review’ by stating that I adore Christopher Moore. I’ve yet to dislike any of his novels. I’ve actually been making my way through all of his books the past month, but I have to say – Fool is officially now my favorite book by him. As a bit of a Shakespeare addict, I loved this book. It’s a retelling of King Lear, from his Fool’s point of view – who, it turns out, was responsible for manipulating the characters into all their deeds in the story of King Lear out of love for Lear’s 3rd daughter, Cordelia. Bawdy, vulgar & hilarious. :D - Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD
The first third of the book is a fascinating read – it delves a bit deep into the physiology of wheat’s affects on the body, but overall, the history of wheat was extensive. I really liked that part of the book. Now – I’ve just gone wheat/gluten free for the past week, and had already done so before reading this book, so I didn’t need to be “sold” on the values of going wheat free. However, the rest of the book becomes a heavy duty sell job on all the benefits of going wheat free – claims so dramatic with NO proof/evidence to back them up that I reached the point of thinking “snake oil salesman”. - If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Wow. I really just don’t have the words to do this story justice. I loved it, pure & simple. It’s beautiful, heart wrenching & one of the few books that I’ve shed a few tears over whilst reading. Mia is 17 and the sole survivor of a car crash that has taken the lives of her whole family. She is in a coma & this story is told from her point of view – where she must decide if she is going to live or die. If you haven’t read it, definitely do so if you get the chance.
Knitting
So today’s blog post title came about because I’ve been knitting like a fiend on baby items. My bestie is expecting & baby Lily is due to arrive in July. We are all so thrilled & excited – even the manlets are super excited about becoming “uncles”! :)
So what all do I have here? 3 pairs of Leftovers Baby Socks, 1 pair of Saartje’s Booties, a Stella Pixie hat, Cache Coeur & a Dear Liza sun bonnet. The amazing thing to me was just how far the Knit Picks Stroll Multi went! I knit all those goodies with only 2 skeins – and I have some leftover to add to my Sock Yarn Blanket! Woo HOO!

Do you think your halfathon is the same as our half marathon? You have found some great projects – I wouldn’t know which one to start with. (I think too much time spent on ravelry is dangerous!) :)

Yes, our halfathons are really half marathons. :) There are 4 of them locally, 2 entirely flat & 2 that are flat on ground, but go up & over bridges to give some sense of elevation to the runs. LOL I agree about spending to much time on Rav – it can be very dangerous, indeed! LOL

Congrats on the new member of the family. I love walking and holding hands too. I am doing good to get out and walk, let alone run. Hope you make it this time. I loved the book comments. I started a Tess Garritsen book ICE COLD. It is one of the Rizzoles and Isles series. It is really a good book. I have only previously read a short story in this series. Your comment about being disappointed really resonated with thoughts I had been having about books by authors I have loved and realizing it could be me or they were going in a direction I just didn’t want to followl I have a friend who when she starts a book always finishes. I don’t anymore. I give it 50 to 100 pages and then if there is no spark, I move on. I have lots of books, so little time. And then there is the bonus of your ravelry browsing. super. i knit and crochet for charity and there were some cute patterns and I saved several. Thank you

Thanks! :) I keep picking up Garritsen, thinking to start reading the series, but I haven’t taken the step just yet. I’m with you – life is too short to read bad books or even just books that don’t click. As a general rule, I will stop reading them if I reach the point of having enough. With The Night Circus, I was actually glad I forged on with it, as the ending was quite satisfying for me. I’m very happy I could add to your Ravelry list! I’m the worst sort of enabler when it comes to the site. LOL
