Running in the dark

Running

Yesterday was a rest day – which was a good thing because I managed to get sick!  Luckily, it’s just an infection that was already on it’s way out the door when I made it to the doctor yesterday.  I figured I’d better get antibiotics to knock it out for certain, though.  The downside?  The antibiotics she gave me cause some serious tummy hurt.  I was already forcing myself to eat throughout the day, trying to redevelop healthier eating habits…  now I have to force myself to eat even though I’m queasy!  Ah well.

This morning, I knocked out another 3 miler.  I slept in a bit, but headed out the door when it was still dark.  I’d forgotten how much I love running in the dark ~ in the morning, that is!  For some reason, running at night just has never appealed to me much.  This morning, there were several folks out on the trail, all bundled up & walking.  I was running so slow that a couple of those ladies were doing a darn fine job staying closer to me than I liked!  At least it challenged me to keep at it a bit.  I’m trying to keep my HR within a specific range, so I found myself needing to fit in some walk breaks to bring it back down into range.  As my fitness returns, that will improve.  I just have to be patient.

Knitting

Well, not a whole lot to report here, actually.  Been working on the Candle Flame Shawl here & there.  Didn’t get much done since I was sick yesterday.  I’m nearly done with one skein of yarn on it, though – I think I’ll be able to use up all the skeins I have in this colorway – YAY!  I’m really loving the stashbusting, it’s great to unload some of the stuff I’ve had hanging around forever.  :)

Hey stranger… I deserted technology (well some of it anyway) a bit ago.. I just was finding myself on the computer too much! I was thinking of you recently.. now that I’m back to running (wahoo)… but only very slowly… and very short too… it’s better than NO running though that’s for sure. I was just pounding out a few miles on the treadmill and was thinking how I’d love a good morning DARK run… funny huh! I also was thinking of you since I’ve been knitting a ‘dobby’ for my oldest… my compatriot in the Harry Potter Love in our household! :-) Maybe i”ll find you on Spark people.. I’m heading over there myself to get my account back up to date ;-)

Ah, yes, that I do understand. I gave up on Plurk a while ago, just got bored with it! Trying to keep up with blogging, Ravelry, Plurk and this online game I play just got to be too much.

Ooooh – you must come join the Road Runners on Spark, if you haven’t already! Great bunch of runners & it is my most active group there. :)

You know, when I first started to run I used to do it at night, around nine or so… later when I started to go to the track, sometimes there were walkers there who were walking faster than I was running…

I remember, yes – I know another online runner (Hi J!) that likes to run at night, too. As we stick to running, we’ll start improving – the key is to get up off the couch in the first place, right? :)

Yes, knight runners we are. Minus the horses.

Some people prefer to run in the morning, others during lunchtime or in the evening. If I try to develop a pattern of running in the morning it always reverts back to the evening hours. Whatever works for you. As long as you’re out there moving in some way that’s all that matters.

:D I like to run too long to be able to run on my lunch hour, when I’m healthy, anyway. But I do know of people that do that, for sure! I love running in the morning, it seems to set the tone for the entire day, helps me to eat right too. :)
